Should I renew my F1 visa after it expires, but my OPT is valid for?

No. A US visa is solely for entry to the US. If you dont need to enter the US, you dont need a visa. Thats why you cant get a US visa inside the US because if you are already inside the US, you dont need to enter. A visas expiration date just means the last day on which you can use the visa to enter the US. A visas expiration date has nothing to do with how long you can stay in the US. You could enter the US on the day your visa expires, and be admitted for potentially months, years, or indefinitely afterwards. What determines your ability to stay in the US is your status, as given on your I-94 by the immigration officer at entry, and governed by the regulations regarding your status. An F1 student is almost always admitted for D/S on their I-94, which means their status lasts indefinitely, as long as they continue to comply with the conditions of F1 status. This means you can stay in the US as long as you continue your studies (including practical training) for which you have a valid I-20. Its only if you leave the US and want to return after your visas expiration, would you need to get a new visa.
